On my recent sister’s weekend to San Francisco we spent most of our time around good food. Now, this blog does not usually feature restaurants but I couldn’t NOT share some of the interesting places we tried while there.
First we went to The Stinking Rose, a Garlic Restaurant. When I made the reservation online I got the impression that it was an Italian restaurant. It wasn’t until I called and a recorded Vampire voice asked me to leave a message that I realized it was something else entirely.
The Stinking Rose is a restaurant based in Los Angeles and San Francisco that is devoted to all things garlic. Nearly every dish from crab legs to ribs is served with garlic, and it was indeed a tasty place. I just wouldn’t go there with anyone I planned on kissing after dinner.
The next great San Francisco eatery was recommended by Guy Fiere’s show Diners, Drive ins and Dives on The Food Network. Tommys Joynt is a deli with eclectic decor, a cash only register and incredibly tasty food. Their beef brisket was some of the best I’ve ever tasted.
Finally, you can’t visit San Francisco without enjoying a little Ghiradelli’s chocolate. The sisters-in-law and I had a blast shopping near Ghiradelli square, but what we really enjoyed were the tasty ice cream treats at one of the three Ghiradelli’s shops in the complex. I’d recommend the Gold Digger – with peanut butter and chocolate sauce, garnished with a traditional Ghiradelli square, it was divine.
So whether you’re in San Francisco for a month or a day, make sure you make time to taste some of the great food that lines the streets. Bon Apetite!
