Snowboarding

Winter is a great time to get outdoors, but when it’s cold the right gear makes all the difference. We’re a skiing and snowboarding family so good winter gear is essential.

The items listed here are what we actually use every day. We purchased almost all of this gear ourselves (if I got it free to review I’ll let you know) and would purchase it again in a heartbeat. I only put gear on here that I absolutely love.

If you want to own this gear too, please click through these links. They’re affiliate links, meaning that if you buy something after clicking them I receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Snowboarding

While family skiing is super fun, let’s talk about my first love – SNOWBOARDING! I love the feeling of gliding down a snowy mountain. It is pure joy! But in order to feel that joy, you have to have the right gear.

Here’s the snowboarding gear I use, all of which we purchased ourselves and have owned for several years. Good gear lasts my friends, that’s what makes it so good.

Mountain Mom Snowboarding

Burton Lip-Stick Womens Snowboard – I LOVE my Burton Lip-Stick board. I got it as a gift from Mountain Dad four or five years ago and it’s durable construction does not disappoint. The Burton Women’s Lip-Stick Board is designed as an advanced intermediate/expert board.

Burton Lipstick Snowboard

With a double camber (also called spring loaded) base, the board shape allows great movement and pop when I need it. I like the channel system for attaching bindings – it makes adjustments for powder days super simple – and I LOVE the stable twin shape of the board that allows for seamless transition from regular to switch riding.

The Burton Lip-Stick board is awesome in powder, on small boxes and rails, on groomers, small jumps, off piste and in all around mountain riding. It can probably handle much more than that too, but those are what I mostly use it for.

Burton Stiletto Womens Snowboard Bindings

Burton Stiletto Womens Snowboard Bindings

These bindings are super comfy and easy to use!

What I love most about my Burton Stiletto Bindings are the toe strap and easy in and out buckles. Having the front strap cover the toe gives me more control over the board and the smooth glide technology buckles tighten and release easily even while wearing gloves.

The base plate system on the Stiletto allows the bindings to adjust with a few quick turns of a screwdriver. I’ve often shifted my stance for powder or park riding slope side on the snow, thanks to the easy design of these bindings.

Pro Tec Classic Audio Snowboard Helmet

Mountain Mom SnowshoeThe Pro Tec Classic Audio Snowboard Helmet is comfortable, warm and easy to buckle while wearing gloves. It’s a great helmet for snowboarding!

The best feature of the Pro Tec Classic Audio Snowboard Helmet is the built in headphones. For the first few years of owning this helmet, I just connected my phone and rocked out while carving turns or listened to audio books on riding the lift. But after a few seasons the internal audio components busted.

The helmet still works great, but I do miss my music.

Northwave Quest Womens Snowboard Boots with Boa Lacing System

Snowboard BootsI got online to find the exact make and model of the snowboard boots I wear and couldn’t help but laugh when I saw how old they were. My awesome Northwave Quest Womens Snowboard Boots that are super comfy and easy to close with their boa closure system came out in…drumroll please…2005!

And they’re still working great!

The boots are comfortable and warm with great ankle support, but they’re not too stiff to walk around in on their own – to the lift, in the lodge, even driving.

Plus I cannot rave enough about the boa lacing system on my boots. Instead of tying long cumbersome shoelaces, I just push in the boa wheel, give it a few turns and presto! The boots tighten quick and easy. It’s easy to use while wearing gloves – which, in case you haven’t noticed, is super important to me.

While my specific style of Northwave Quest Womens Snowboard Boots are out of production, the Northwave Helix Spin Womens Snowboard Boot is similar in features and quality.

Oakley AirBrake Snow Goggles

Oakley Airbrake Snow GogglesMountain Dad gave me a pair of Oakley Airbrake Snow Goggles one year for Christmas or my January Birthday and I loved them so much I bought him a pair for Valentine’s Day.

What’s great about the Oakley Airbrake Snow Goggles is their switchlock technology. If you’re snowboarding on a bright bluebird day with lots of sun, you’ll want a dark lens that works like sunglasses. But if you’re night skiing and just need something to keep snow out of your eyes, and help seeing bumps in the terrain, you’d want a light colored or clear lens to help with visibility.

That’s why the Oakley Airbrake Snow Goggles are so cool. Not only can you switch out the lenses for perfect visibility conditions, you can do it with gloves on! Usually those fine motor skill movements are too tricky for thick gloves, but the design of these oakley goggles and their switch lock technology allows you to switch out the lenses without removing your gloves. It’s super cool.

These goggles aren’t cheap but we found that we can repurpose them as goggles for off-roading in the summer as well. Bonus!
