Mountain Dad used our new LifeStraw Go on his daily hike to Stewart Falls yesterday and wrote up this short review. This is a first here at Mountain Mom and Tots – Mountain Dad doesn’t usually write reviews so you know the LifeStraw Go must be pretty special.

Top Ten Summer Products from Outdoor Retailer

Sharing is caring:

Last week I spent a few days at Outdoor Retailer – the largest trade show for outdoor gear in the country. Every six months companies from coast to coast come to show what they’re all about. This summer I got to check out some really cool products, some of which I had seen before and some that were totally new to me. Here’s my list of favorite finds from the show.

1. Go Sun Stove – This tube of insulated glass can cook food using only solar power. Plus it’s light (only 3.5 lbs) and eco-friendly.

2. Field Candy – I loved these kid friendly designs from British company Field Candy. So hip it hurt.

3. luminAID – A solar charged lantern that floats, blinks and lights up pretty.

4. ChicoBag – Packable, reusable storage bags including snack and produce options and many are made from recycled material.

5. Velo Bling Designs – Jewelry made from recycled bicycle parts. It even inspired this unique tattoo.

6. FireBuggz – Adorable roasting sticks for kids of all ages!

7. Monkey Mat – A portable floor for Baby L. I used it within an hour of getting it!

8. Bubi Bottles – So squeezable, these bottles are like a friendly squirty blob.

9. Stower – I didn’t know you could make electricity with fire and water. Live on Kickstarter.

10. Chapul – I dare you to eat cricket! These bars are made from cricket flour, a sustainable source of protein.

11. Pakems – Packable boots that come in a variety of colors, including a color your own pair!

12. BlackFire – So much more than a flashlight.

13. Lunatec – I love the aquabot. Mister, shower, 25 foot squirt gun and water bottle all in one.

OK, so that’s a few more than ten. I just couldn’t decide what was best!

National Park Roundup and Outdoor Retailers

Some fun things have been happening here at Mountain Mom and Tots.

First, I wanted to direct you to the most extensive National Parks Link List I have ever seen. A blogger friend at wildtalesof.com connected me to the site Roadtrips for Families. Last month they began a comprehensive list of more than forty National Park destinations gathered from seasoned outdoor families all over the country.

Mountain Mom and Tots contributed links for Denali, Kenai Fjords, Zion, Great Basin, Arches, Bryce Canyon and Independence Hall National Parks, and you’d better believe I’ll be going there before planning other National Park trips. Check it out here.
Second, this week thousands of outdoors suppliers from all over the world will gather to demonstrate their gear and expertise. The largest trade show for the outdoor industry takes place this week in Salt Lake City and Mountain Mom and Tots will be there. Outdoor Retailers is the place to find cool new gear for every adventure and we’ll be checking out some of the hottest new items for all of you.

Park City Mountain Resort Summer Activities, Utah

Sharing is caring:
For a recent family reunion our crew of about 20 adults and 27 kids descended on Park City Mountain Resort to check out their summer activities. The resort has several options of things to do with kids – rock climbing, mini golf, a merry-go-round, and super jump trampoline. In addition to those smaller activities they have the big three – the Alpine Coaster, the Alpine Slide and Zip Line.

Big E and I took a ride on the Alpine Slide, first enjoying a scenic lift ride up the mountain. Alpine scenery is my absolute favorite so I was a fan of the view and all that green. At the top of the lift Big E and I took our slide seat to the track and loaded up.
Although he is big enough to ride the slide on his own, Big E wanted to ride with me so we squeezed in together for the ride down. The track races through trees and green meadows. Each rider has control of their speed which was good for my reticent six-year-old.

After the slide, Big E and I waited in the hot sun for over an hour to try the other big attraction – The Alpine Coaster. The Coaster rolls through trees, bushes and grass close to the action. Again Big E rode with me and we liked controlling our own speed down the mountain.
This video is from the Park City Mountain Resort website and gives a good idea of what it was like. Both the Coaster and Alpine Slide were fun and worth a visit. I’m glad I finally tried this summer attraction. The one big drawback I saw was the price. The combo price was $29 for adults and $13 for a youth passenger, which seems steep for less than ten minutes of thrill and a long wait line.
Overall we loved the day, topping it off with ice cream. It was great to spend some one on one time with my son.
